It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, but I think it’s time I give myself an extra style challenge for the new year. If you are not familiar with the Five-Item Challenge, it’s a challenge where I limit myself to just five purchases during the months of January, February, and March. Every individual makes their own self-imposed special rules for themselves, such dollar limits, allowances, etc.
I thought about the rules of this particular challenge long and hard, and decided that this time around I will not give myself a dollar limit. The goal for myself is to make smart choices, although, of course, I want to do the best I can and try not to add five super expensive luxury pieces to my wardrobe!
As for allowances, I will exclude jewelry under $15 from my five-items. So things such as Forever21 rings will not be included, but a necklace such as this one from Bauble Bar that is on my wish list will count as one item. I will also not include “necessities” such as socks, but everything else is fair game!
I have participated in this challenge a number of times over the years, and I think I may have only been successful once or twice! Despite multiple failures, it certainly forces to think long and hard before making a purchase and really sets me up well for the rest of the year.
The toughest part about this challenge is keeping the outfits from being redundant. So I hope to maintain some sort of creative fashion sense throughout his process, while being unable to add new pieces whenever I will like I need something to freshen up the closet!
If you are interested, I will keep track of my five items in the side-bar and do a round up at the end of the three months!
Does anyone else do something similar? I’d love to hear about it!
