Yes, it’s true, two reviews in one week. Although this one is quite timely given that Ann Taylor is currently holding their Family and Friends Sale right now, offering 40% off everything with code FRIENDS40. I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect nude pump what seems like forever and I’ve tried every nude pump that has ever existed (OK, not really, but it certainly feels like it). I just can’t seem to find the right combination of heel height, color, and fit. But when I saw these Ann Taylor Mila Pumps, I knew I had to try them.
Look: These are beauties. The color is more of a neutral undertone, without leaning too yellow or too pink. Those with a paler skin tone might find these too dark to be truly “nude”, but it goes well my medium to tan skin tone. I also love the heel, which is a bit on the straighter side, which I think gives heels a more modern look as opposed to a very curved shank.
The heel measures 3.5″ from the outside of the heel to the bottom of the heel, which is what the website states as the height of the heel. There is a perfect amount of toe cleavage (in my opinion), not too little and not too much.
Fit/Comfort: The inner sole of the shoe has a good amount of padding and could be worthy of all day wear. The toe box is also not too narrow for a pointed shoe, which if very important if you don’t want your toes to feel squished after an hour of wear. However, I do have to say, that for me, they run a half size too large. I’ve always had trouble “walking out” of my pumps, but these didn’t even have a chance. This surprised me given that the review I read said they were a bit snug, which part of the reason I jumped at the chance to buy these in the first place! I can usually tell when a shoe simply won’t fit due to the shape of my heel and when the shoe is simply too large, and these shoes definitely ran too long. Width-wise, they seemed to be pretty normal, not too wide and not too narrow.
Quality: These shoes appear to be pretty sturdy. The sole is made of leather as is the inside and upper of the shoe. They also feel pretty malleable without feeling like they will stretch out, but instead conform to the foot, which is an absolute must in my book, as I cannot stand a shoe that stretches out almost immediately, but neither can I stand a shoe that it too stiff with hard edges. Of course, because of the sizing issue, I cannot be positive that they won’t stretch out so don’t hold me to that statement!
Verdict: Return, due to sizing issue. Unfortunately for me, the website seems to be OOS in the 5.5. I will just have to hope for a return so that I can give these another go in a smaller size! They also come in navy (ooh!) and black!
