I hope all my American friends had an amazing Thanksgiving. While I didn’t have any turkey, I had a pretty intense weekend, that has started me on a life-changing journey, but more of this another day. It’s been quite a while since I had purchased a cardigan, but I came across this olive green open cardigan and it has suddenly become part of my casual uniform for fall. Throw it over a stripe tee and a pair of denim and I’m good to go.
I did my best to avoid some unnecessary purchases over Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but I have to admit, I saw some pretty great deals out there. I snagged a few shirts that I’ve had my eye on for a while, but that’s about it. Except for something completely unrelated to fashion–a new Kitchenaid stand mixer! The last few years I’ve owned a Cuisinart, which worked great, but I couldn’t resist such a great deal on a 6qt Pro. Any fellow Kitchenaid owners out there have any attachment recommendations? I’m ready to collect them all!
As my fellow petites can probably relate, it can be incredibly difficult to find a sweater dress that doesn’t completely overwhelm my frame. Sweaterdresses that you see online are usually worn by models who are around 5’10. Meaning, what hits them at mid-thigh, probably hits me at mid-calf. Not a great look. I eventually gave up trying to find a true sweaterdress and started widening my search for a longer length sweater that might work as a dress. Even this turned out to be quite the challenge, but I finally came across a sweater that would allow me to do, what is called, “lampshading”.
I love the color of this particular sweater I found at Aritzia. While a little bit itchy for my wool-sensitive skin, it is not overly irritating over the right layer.
If this sweater is out of your price range, I found some other alternatives that look petite-friendly:
On a side note, I finally decided to make a blog-dedicated Instagram account (@cher_dressedaccordingly). I figured people might be getting tired of all my dog- and food-related posts. I’m really enjoying the new IG account, as I feel more comfortable using pictures that are more “free-style” poses. Of course, you are all still also welcome to follow my personal account (@ch3r_m). Hut if you would like to follow something a bit more style-oriented, my new account is probably a better bet.
I am pretty good and skipping trends when they don’t fall into the so-called “confines” of my personal style. While I do not believe in staying away from all the trends of the moment, I do think it’s important to take a look at a trendy item and see how it fits into the rest of your wardrobe. All season I’ve tried to avoid this “fluffy sleeve” trend, but I came across this particular off the shoulder top by 1.State and thought that maybe I could make it fit into an edgy, minimalist wardrobe and still feel like myself. I haven’t done one of these five-ways posts in a long while, but here it is!
Typical outfit, with my favorite destroyed/distressed jeans:
Some petites may not like the cropped hem paired with some ankle strap heels, but I’ve never been one to worry about the ankle strap. But in case you are, here is the outfit paired with some nude heels:
I’ve always been obsessed with super wide-leg pants. I’m not sure what it is, but if I see a pair hanging on the rack, I’ll come running. Petites tend to shy away from a super wide-leg in fear of being shortened, but I don’t see a need to avoid them. I’m wearing them with flats, but a great way to lengthen the leg is to wear them with heels and keep the hem as long as possible.
Babaton Trench Vest (sold out, similar) / Banana Republic Cut out wrap booties (last season) / J.Crew Martie Pant in Stretch Wool (see here in Stretch Cotton) / Apple Watch Series 2 / 3.1 Phillip Lim 31 Minute Medium Clutch / Forever21 Rings
I was trying to think of a cool way to add layers, while still making it obvious that it was actually an off-the-shoulder top. I thought it would be visually interesting to add a vest, and I’m pretty happy with the look. I’m also loving the mix of a feminine blouse with an edgy shoe.
An outfit that is a bit more care-free and easy, is to pair with shorts. I did a little mullet-tuck of the top so it actually looked like I was wearing bottoms. Because really, what’s worse than looking like you aren’t wearing any pants? =)
