Almost there

Though we’ve had a really mild winter this year, I still can’t wait to pack away the heavy winter layers. I’m already thinking of new spring outfits to wear in the coming weeks, including this one and though I’d normally top this off with a black shoe  (because hey, that’s mostly what I have), I decided to go with a cobalt blue suede wedge, because why not?

If anyone is wondering about the status of my Five-Item Challenge, it’s going pretty well (see widget to the right). I made a three-item purchase from J.Crew’s sale, but I actually used a store credit. In past challenges, I always excluded items I purchased with gift cards and store credit but this year I made a rule addressing it because I forgot I even had it! In the interest of being transparent, I’ve included it in the widget even though I’m not fully convinced that they should count. Slippery slope, I know.

Never enough

No matter how many pairs of trousers I own, I feel like I can  never have enough. Despite assembling a very nice collection over the past 10+ years, I can’t help myself when I come across a pair that fits perfectly off the rack (notwithstanding any hemming that may be needed).

When I found these Theory trousers haphazardly strewn over a rack in the Runway section of TJ Maxx in one my trips to the US late last year, I jumped when I saw it was just my size. A trip to the fitting room to make sure it fit just right, and it was all mine. They are made of thick, heavy, cushy knit material, I could almost compare it to fleece except that it didn’t look like fleece at all, but heavy wool. It took me a while to push myself to finally hem these, but I’m so glad I finally did before spring was upon us, because these are definitely not for summer wear!

I wore this outfit to a matinee show of Kinky Boots (highly recommended!). I hadn’t been to a show in many, many years so I wasn’t sure of the dress code, though I knew that matinees were more casual than the evening shows. So once again, I pulled out this super versatile striped sweater and threw it over black denim. Turns out I was somewhat overdressed even in this! Any chance I get to wear this striped sweater, I guess. 🙂
