It’s happened. Spring has sprung. Finally. I’m ready to bust out those my spring sneakers, namely my new white Stan Smith sneakers that I finally got my hands on. This particular pair is a women’s style they actually fit smaller feet. Whereas the “regular” Stan Smith sneakers only came in men’s sizing. Happy? Yes!
One of my other favorite purchases over the last few months is this sleeveless mockneck tank. I’ve been looking for one for a while, but I settled on this particular one from Aritzia as it appears to be good quality but didn’t break my budget. I was trying to wait patiently on this Theory one, but it was either sold out or the price wasn’t right. There is also an H&M version that I liked, but I couldn’t snag it in my size. This tank goes with pretty much everything, so I’m pretty excited about it. I paired it with a stretchy skirt and this long trench with sneakers for a fun, casual look.
I’m crying right now. Because I’m dying to wear spring outfits, and it still feels like winter outside. I am absolutely obsessed with these olive J.Crew Martie pants, and paired with white it looks so fresh! sigh. Just a few more days and maybe I can finally put away that heavy winter parka.
For the sake of this post, let’s ignore for the moment that as I type this, it isn’t -16C outside. In April. =/ But I’ve been trying on this long trench coat all weekend (indoors, of course), debating whether or not I want to keep it. Although I love the look, longer coats are particularly tricky on petites as they can easily engulf a small frame. Over the years I’ve been extremely hesitant to wear something that is way beyond the lower part of the knee because I’ve seen it go horribly wrong in real life more times than not. However, as of late, I’ve been seeing the longer coat on petites online done successfully, and I’m figuring that I maybe I should be able to pull this off as well.
To make this work, the focus should be fit–the shoulders, sleeves, and the waist which we don’t want to be too wide and boxy. A lighter fabric also helps with not looking like too heavy a piece that overwhelms the body. This particular trench from Aritzia is designed to be a bit on the slouchier side, hence the drapey fabric, the longer storm flaps, and slightly dropped shoulder. The proportions look better when I’m wearing heels rather than flats (no surprise there), but I’m really like this as a statement piece that is really different from what I currently have in my closet. I could also see this as being really fun to play with the proportions with different layers on underneath, so I’m thinking I’m going to keep it!
Any thoughts or feelings on this? Or any body else loving the longer length coats? How are you wearing them?
