Olive + White

I’m crying right now. Because I’m dying to wear spring outfits, and it still feels like winter outside. I am absolutely obsessed with these olive J.Crew Martie pants, and paired with white it looks so fresh! sigh. Just a few more days and maybe I can finally put away that heavy winter parka.

Skirting Around

This is the first skirt post in a while, and there are a few reasons why. One, I do not like wearing skirts in the winter. The drafty-ness that occurs when the wind blows up against my legs is enough to make me put all my skirts away until spring. The second reason is that the extra weight I’ve put on over the last fall and winter season has prevented me from zipping up all my skirts! But now that I’m back “within range”, you will likely be seeing more skirts in upcoming blog posts.

Risky

I am really not a fan of final sale purchases, particularly those bought online. What’s worse than spending your hard-earned money on items that you aren’t even sure that fit? It’s far too risky for my taste, but once in a blue moon I manage to get sucked in by something that is such a good deal and far too intriguing to pass up. Plus, I had a $200+ credit sitting on my J.Crew account for months that was taunting me.

One of those things was these J.Crew Patio Pant. I’ve been staring at these pants since last year, and since I don’t often go into the mall these days, I really didn’t know how these were going to fit other than from reading the reviews on the website–and let’s not leave out the fact that I J.Crew pants and I aren’t consistently BFFs. Furthermore, cropped wide leg pants in their own right is risky business, particularly if you are petite like myself. Feeling extra daring, I chose to purchase these in a cobalt blue rather than a neutral color hoping to add a little pop to my mostly neutral wardrobe for spring. I had all these reasons not to buy these trousers, so I’m not entirely sure what possessed me to I hit the purchase button except that credit burning a hole in my pocket. And the verdict?

Surprisingly, these fit incredibly well (thankfully!). Like the Martie I went for the regular length because I had a feeling that the petite size would be too short for me. And they fit pretty well. I scoured the internet and experimented with my own wide leg trousers trying to determine the most flattering length for these tricky pants, and I finally came to the conclusion that for a cut such as these, approximately 3″ above the top of the ankle bone is the most flattering. I actually hemmed these pants up 1″ to get it right where I wanted them. I also again opted for the bi-stretch wool, because I prefer how it drapes on the body. Despite being unlined,  I do not find the material irritating at all.

One thought I had before actually taking these photos was that I should add brooch or something to put on the jacket to give the whole outfit a little something extra. I decided against it, as I was just being a bit too lazy to go dig one up, but now looking back at these photos, I sort of wish I had. At this point, I guess that’s neither here, nor there.

The measurements on the 00R are as follows:

Waist: 26″
Hip at base of zipper: 34″
Inseam (after I hemmed up 1″): 24″
Rise: 9.5″ (high-waisted for petites!)
Leg Opening: 16″

These pants also come in a multitude of colors, prints, and fabrics, including cotton and suede! Today only, J.Crew is offering 30% off your purchase (some exclusions apply), plus 50% off final sale with code TIMETOSHOP. This patio pants are only $25 right now, so I’m contemplating buying these in navy. Also, if you have a J.Crew card, your purchase will earn you double points!
