I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy during this uncertain and difficult time. On one hand, practicing social distancing/isolation/quarantine can be a challenge to our mental health and emotional well-being, but with all this “extra” time on our hands, it can also be an opportunity to self-reflect and even take part in some much needed self-care.
Personally, in the first few days I’ve stared out the window feeling grateful that I am fortunate to be able to work from home, and being thankful to those who are on the front lines risking their own lives for those in need, as well continuing to provide us with our daily essentials. I have also done quite a bit of early spring cleaning. I was looking through my skincare stash, and I thought I would just quickly share with you a few of my most loved “clean” skincare items. When I say “clean”, I use the Sephora definition, i.e., without Sulfates—SLS + SLES, Parabens, Formaldehydes, Formaldehyde-releasing agents, Phthalates, Mineral Oil, Retinyl Palmitate, Oxybenzone, Coal Tar, Hydroquinone, Triclosan, Triclocarban, Undisclosed synthetic fragrances.
As you may have noticed, my Five-Item Challenge for the first quarter completely bombed. I was actually doing extremely well until mid-March, and it all fell apart. No regrets, though. I got my hands on some really cool stuff! I purchased a few things with a store credit, so I’m not sure those should really count towards my five items as I have never included them in the past, but I will show them here since either way, the whole thing was blown.
Overall, 4 of the 12 items were purchased with a gift card or store credit. If I don’t include those in my items then I exceeded the five items by only three. Not bad. My favorite item of the bunch is the BlankNYC suede jacket and I can’t wait to be wearing it once the last of this winter season passes!
Did anyone else try this challenge and had some success?
New season, new stuff? I have been actively trying to cut down on my purchases each season. Sometimes I’m successful, most other times I’m not. But I asked myself, if I was only to pick five pieces to update my spring wardrobe this year, what would they be? Eventually, I came up with the following:
(1) Slipper/loafer flats such as the Vince Bogart. I’m always looking for a great casual shoe and this is pretty different from what I currently have in my shoe wardrobe. Review of the Bogart coming soon!
(2) Tunic-length white button down shirt like the J.Crew Endless Shirt. Perfect for layering and for creating unique silhouettes, which is something that I’ve been trying to do more of lately.
