Party-wear, by default

One of the things that I highlye recommend that every woman invest in their wardrobe, is a default party outfit. Whether that be a dress or a some sort of blouse that is wearable for all types of occasions and something you feel good in no matter what and for those occasions where you just can’t find anything to wear.  This happens to be mine:
DRESSED ACCORDINGLY BLOG // Halter top + wide leg trousers + statement ear cuff DRESSED ACCORDINGLY BLOG // Halter top + wide leg trousers + statement ear cuff DRESSED ACCORDINGLY BLOG // Halter top + wide leg trousers + statement ear cuffDvF halter top (old) / Aritzia Trousers (similar) / Le Chateau rings (here and here) / Aldo Minaudiere (similar) / Ann Taylor Pumps / Forever21 Bracelet / Forever21 statement ear cuff (also love this — 35% off Cyber Monday with code VIP)

An DvF halter top that can be tied a multitude of ways, with a beautiful drape and looks great with either trousers or a skirt. I was attending my first holiday party with my new firm and my attendance was somewhat last minute. Despite making an attempt to find something in the stores, even braving the Black Friday madness, I couldn’t find anything I felt good in. The only thing I was sure of, was that I wanted my statement ear cuff to be the focal point. So I went to my hairstylist and had her style my hair but not before telling her that my ear cuff absolutely had to be showing. She happily obliged by pinning the hair behind my ear for a cute little party ‘do.  I had initially envisioned something a more on the edgier side (as per usual), but I couldn’t argue with this look either. I gave it a bit more edge with a dark lip.

Do you have default party outfit? I’d love to hear it!

And we can’t forget those Cyber Monday deals:

Bauble Bar: 35% off most items with code VIP. Admittedly, however, the really amazing stuff right now is Olivia Palermo‘s line but is excluded from the promo.

Ann Taylor: 50% off plus free shipping on everything. Great deal, because usually free shipping isn’t offered with these types of promotions forcing to spend that $175 to get free shipping. Use code EVERYTHING. I’ve had some good experience with their cashmere, so I’m thinking of picking up a couple of crewnecks in this cobalt blue and burgundy.

Banana Republic: 40% off everything, no exclusions. Code BESTCYBER.

Holiday Dressing without the Dress

If you have followed my blog way before it became “Dressed Accordingly”, you know that I have always had a difficult time with dresses.  I generally find myself uncomfortable wearing them, so when the holidays come around and I find myself in the position of having to “dress up” it used to (and still can) be very stressful.

But over the years, I’ve come to realize that holiday dressing does not always have to involve wearing a dress. A great wide leg trouser, a one-piece jumpsuit, or a culotte, can be a beautiful and sophisticated alternative to a dress. If you don’t currently have any of these pieces in your closet, here are some great options I’ve come across as of late:

As for the top, I tend to find myself leaning towards halter tops, but I did come across this cool fringe top at Zara which can easily be layered over a simple black sheath dress or paired with a trouser or skirt. I purchased this myself to try out for the holiday party with my colleagues and I’m excited to see if it works in real life as well as it does in my imagination!

Also, accessories are extremely important to finish off these looks. For everyday, I’m pretty simple when it comes to accessorizing, but for the holidays, usually the blingier the better. I’m loving the oversized earcuff right now, but some more “traditional” statement earrings or necklace with a large ring, is also great to complement an outfit.

A few other items that I think are great alternatives to the dress for holiday dressing here:

And for those of you already for Black Friday deals, J.Crew is having a sale: 30% your entire purchase including stuff that’s NEVER on sale (hello, Regent blazer?!).  Their December Collection has been released today if anyone is looking for some brand new goodies. It’s also a great time to pick up some outerwear as the temperatures are really starting to drop. Plus, today (Tuesday), free shipping on any purchase. And for cardmembers, an extra 40% off sale. Use code GETSHOPPING. I picked up this blazer.

Shopbop is having a buy more, save more sale. With code GOBIG15, get 15% off your purchase of $250, 20% off your purchase of $500 or 25% off your purchase of $1000+.

Madewell is offering 25% off your entire purchase with code CALMDOWN. This bucket bag has been in constant rotation since I got it!

For those of you that also bypass the dress for the holidays, what will you be wearing to holiday events? I’d love to hear it!

No black

A few weekends ago, I attended the wedding of one of my many cousins. I don’t have many occasions to dress up these days, so going a big glam can be really fun. There was a catch, however. The wedding invitation explicitly requested that no white or black should be worn, as the bride and groom wanted to keep things colorful. I think it was pretty accurate to say that this request made all of the women freak out. Umm, no black?? After the inital shock wore off, if we hadn’t said it out loud, we were all thinking, “WHAT AM I GOING TO WEAR?!”

Then I remembered that I actually do own a yellow dress (if you recall, I wore it here). It was the perfect occasion to be able to wear the dress again, and coincidentally, one of the wedding colors was yellow!

I definitely wanted to style it differently from the last time, and I came up with the idea to just bling out. I’ve been obsessed with Dylanlex necklaces over the last while, but I can certainly not afford such beautiful pieces as they hover around the $800 mark. So I searched all ends of the internet and finally came across a seller on Etsy that made bib necklaces very similar to Dylanlex. One of my concerns was that the seller was from Hong Kong, so I wasn’t 100% convinced about the quality, but after reading many of the reviews in her online store, I decided to give it a go. The necklace I purchased came to $61USD including shipping. And thankfully, it arrived in time, which as also a concern of mine. It came about a week and a half after I ordered it.

And this is how the outfit turned out:

DRESSED ACCORDINGLY BLOG // Cape Dress + Statement Necklace

Cape dress + bib necklaceZara cape dress (old) / Boutique9 pumps (old)(see similar) / Le Chateau cuffs and ring / Jazaar Pevita necklace / Bauble Bar earrings + ear jackets (similar) / American Apparel clutch

I’m actually quite happy with the overall look. And if you are wondering about the necklace. I am pretty impressed. It is a really good weight and construction is great. Obviously, I cannot compare to a true Dylanlex necklace as I have never seen one in real life, however, I am very pleased with this dupe and I am happy to recommend it. The seller is Jazaar and you can find her Etsy shop here (not affiliated!).

This Zara dress is sold out, but see some of my favorite cape dresses below:
