A little slow getting into the swing of things, but I think I’m finally ready to get going! We’ve been fortunate to be having a relatively mild winter this year. Luckily that means that I some days I can wear outfits that are more “fall-like”, and get away with things I’d normally not be able to get away with during this time of year, like say, sneakers without socks! Yes, really!
Ever since I laid eyes on this BR camel coat online, possibly as early as spring, I was obsessed with it. But when I finally got in my hands, I was on the fence. In fact, it went into the “return pile” three times before I decided I wanted to keep it. It is truly an boyfriend coat–boxy and oversized (which of course, I knew it was), but even more so that the similar grey version. Even in my regular petite size, I felt like it was still a bit too overwhelming on my tiny frame.
Despite putting the coat in the return pile three time, I still wasn’t ready to give up on it. On the fourth try, I decided that I loved it. And it goes beautifully with my regular fall palette (i.e., grey, black, navy, and burgundy). Plus, despite how thin and light it is, it is surprisingly warmer than expected (also true for the gray sister version).
Oh and these grey jeans? They are everything. Paige has long been my favorite denim brand and these did not disappoint. They grey is the perfect shade–not too light and not too dark, and so soft without looking like I’m wearing leggings. I sometimes come across a pair of Paige Verdugo that don’t quite fit my thin calves quite the way I wanted to, but these are perfect. They do require a bit of hemming, but I consider that to be a very minor alteration. I now have my eyes on the destructed version.
A lot of us are gearing up for the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales. I am not going to list every sale I have come across because there are A LOT and I’m sure other bloggers have been reminding you, but these are the ones I personally have been watching:
Alexander Wang: Up to 40% off selected items plus free shipping on orders over $250.
I’ve this Veda Max Classic Jacket for approximately three years now and I still wear it regularly throughout the year whenever the weather warrants it. I don’t wear it closed very often (or at all), but was asked by a reader to do a review and show a picture of it zipped up and I thought it would be a great opportunity to play around with a look that has the jacket zipped all the way up (it can also be worn with the collar folded down). Plus, since I’ve had it for quite a while, I agreed that Im probably in a good position to talk about it.
The leather is just as soft and supple as when I first bought it, even more so as it has broken in. It does fit a bit tight across the shoulders, however. So, if you are wide/strong shouldered like I am, going up a size would not be a bad idea. It has stretched a little bit over the years, but not dramatically.
As you may have noticed, it is made of knit under the arms making for a very snug fit. Because of this, layering isn’t so easy. I generally layer over a thin shirt, but chunky sweaters? Don’t even think about it. Also, the knit has pilled a little bit over time, but nothing a pill-shaver cant’t fix.
As for how well the leather has worn over time, it does look worn in some places. Because it is such a tight fitting jacket and requires some pulling to get it on, there are certain areas of the jacket like behind the shoulder or under the arms where the leather appears to be peeling/drying a little bit. Proper care regular moisturizing (and not pulling too hard) could help delay or prevent this. I admit, I don’t moisturize as often as I should.
Would I buy this jacket again? Yes, but definitely on sale. I believe I purchased it for under $400, and I think it was worth that price. I do think it could have worn a bit better over time, but given how much I do actually wear it, it probably was just inevitable.
Do you have a favorite leather jacket? I’m always on the hunt! Check out All-Saints, which is having a 20% off sale everything except handbags with code: NOVEMBER. Jackets are great for petites!
And a quick mention of these chelsea boots from Ann Taylor. It is one of my most recent purchases that I could not resist. These boots in particular attracted me because the slightly pointy/almond shaped toe box. Most chelsea boots I’ve come across recently either have an round toe or a pointy-toe, so I was thrilled to find a hybrid and thought it was different enough to justify its purchase. Right now AT is having their F&F sale with code FRIENDS40. A great time to snag these booties for 40% off! They also come in brown! I took my regular boot size.
